Drivers are sometimes horribly rude

MY name is Jessica Wilkinson and I am a member of Birkenhead North End Cycling Club. I am 11 years old.

After reading a letter in your paper about how cycling two abreast was wrong, I felt I had to reply.

I’ve experienced drivers being horribly rude to me when I’m cycling.

Sometimes drivers are driving so fast and dangerously that when taking over, they nearly knock me off my bike.

Cycling is one of the best sports for exercise and it doesn’t affect any drivers’ lives when people ride two abreast on the road.

Two cyclists put together are nowhere near as wide as a car is.

Cyclists are just like a slow vehicle. The most dangerous thing on the road is a car.

Just because cars are much bigger doesn’t mean that they own the road - it also belongs to horses, tractors and cyclists.

The writer who complained about cyclists riding two abreast obviously got angry because the riders slowed them down for a few minutes.

It is perfectly legal to cycle two abreast, however it is illegal to drive dangerously.
