Distress at Clatterbridge car park

I TOO have faced difficulties with Clatterbridge car parking arrangements. The limited patient parking spaces by Elm House are confusing and very badly designed.

I had an appointment at the breast clinic - the barrier allowed me into the car park but the only space was too narrow for me to park.

To my horror, bollards had been set up at the far end since my previous visit, which meant I would have to:

1) Wait for someone to come and move their car.

2) Pay £2 to get out and go to another car park where I would have to pay another £2.

3) Leave my car in the middle of the carpark.

It was very distressing. I had only £2 and felt trapped, needing to attend the clinic for results. After some time a car drove out but I was left upset and frustrated by this ridiculous situation.

The bollards are unneccessary and created the problem.

As a member of staff at Elm House I agree that the parking in car park J is a disgrace. It is beyond me as to why there is not a ticket system in place as in the other car parks. As I understand the ticket gives 10 mins free so that if a space is not available you can still get out. Staff have complained for two years about this particular car park. I am sick of informing people that the road markings are wrong and I hope that this article will finally see that something is done. Whoever is in charge of the car parking system doesn't realise that while staff are constantly dealing with complaints we cannot get on with our work which is ensuring patient health not causing them more distress.

I agree that the "pay on exit" system is disgraceful and ill thought out. Patients and visitors deserve better than this; after all we have already paid once for healthcare via our taxes and the car parking charge is another ruse to extract money from us. Unlike Arrowe Park which needs strict parking controls, there was never a serious congestion problem at Clatterbridge. In addition, there isn't a park-and-ride service or offsite parking so motorists have no alternative but to pay up.
